About me

I am Sainey Dibba Chongan. I was born in a tiny West African nation called The Gambia. I've lived in USA for several years. Like many, I went to college to obtain a degree in business management. After graduation, I got married and was blessed with a beautiful family. After sometime, I found my “calling” in design and creation which has always been a big part of who I am at a very early age.

My mother, Sainabou Faal was a business woman. She inspired me to start my own business as I grew up watching her travel all over the world buying and selling products in every continent from food to clothing to jewelry. She was relentless in her pursuit of a perfect balance between a mom, wife and the great entrepreneur that she was. Being a very keen observer of my mom at a young age; as she managed her shop in Banjul, I developed an interest in what she was doing especially pieces of jewelry and clothing she sold.

I have always had an eye for all things sartorial. I love beautiful fabric, long, flowing, perfectly fitting apparels with pockets. My long journey in fashion started with selling pieces of jewelry, wigs, evening dresses and "African outfits" made by tailors abroad and doing makeup. It was not always perfect and sometimes the end product was not always what I envisioned.

With this as my compass, I decided to go back to school to explore the world of fashion and learn the craft of designing and creating. With such an epiphany, I got the inspiration to start this venture of cutting, creating and hand crafting my own outfits. Eventually, I started making clothes for friends and family. After rave reviews from this group, I decided to share this talent with the public and started making pieces from my living room; to sell on social media. That’s when the idea of M&S came into fruition.
